ABOUT US

The Center for Fundamental and Applied Molecular Evolution (FAME) is a jointly sponsored initiative between Emory University and Georgia Institute of Technology. Established in November 2002, its primary scientific goals are the studies of evolutionary principles and their application to the synthesis of novel molecules and materials in the laboratory. Highly interdisciplinary, the group is composed of scientists drawn from seven academic departments and a variety of backgrounds including chemistry, biology, biochemistry and chemical engineering.

FAME provides a unique intellectual framework and infrastructure to nurture the efforts of the participating scientists. In the summer of 2005, a steering committee of students and post-docs took over the administration of the monthly meetings and seminars for all FAME members (12 PIs and their research groups, totaling over 50 people). The increasing role for non-faculty members of the group ensures that undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral fellows are exposed to different scientific perspectives and experiences.
